Scat Connecting Rod Selection
Rod selection for this build was fundamental. Just as we went with a heavier duty option for the crankshaft for durability reasons, we matched that move with Scat’s Pro Sport 4340 forged H-beam connecting rods (PN 6653522A) with doweled cap alignment and a 7/16-inch ARP 2000 rod bolt upgrade.
These are the bad boys of Scat’s rod selection, specifically configured for nitrous and supercharged applications so we were confident they would stand up to the long extended runs we had planned for them. The A suffix on the part number indicates the bolt upgrade. These rods fit standard 2.200-inch crank pins and accept standard .990-inch diameter wrist pins. The 7/16 x 1.800 ARP 2000 rod bolts are rated at 220,000 lbs. clamping force.
We selected a rod length of 6.535-inch; longer than stock, but only about halfway between stock length and the maximum available length. We specified a longer rod for extended high rpm efficiency and would have gone even longer if the planned rpm had been higher than the anticipated 7500 RPM. The benefits are small, but the rod length was chosen to help pull the torque peak and the power peak closer together minimizing the RPM drop on gear changes.
